SASSA CHILD GRANT INCREASE AND R350 TO BECOME R500
The child support grant is to be reconsidered for an increase by SASSA,
this comes after news of COSATU being in and out of their way to make the agency consider this Increase.
It was considered earlier this year that the R460, per child given to mothers by the government is below the poverty line.
Most people agree to this. As the pandemic also played a major role in that,
people are not working due to stores being closed, taking into consideration that we went through a riot this year also.
The agency was however not buying the story of R460 being too low as we already know that the government itself suffered a blow because of COVID-19.
Nonethless people have taken a stand against this, even though they were given an opportunity to apply for the R350 SRD grant they still believe it is not enough.
When COSATU mentioned the idea of the child support grant being INCREASED to R624, it sparked the nation.
Mothers, more especially those who are single parents have taken to social media platforms to share their pleas about this idea. However there are a few things that we need to think about.
CAN THE GOVERNMENT AND SASSA AFFORD THIS INCREASE?
Most probably yes, as we all may understand that SASSA does have R26.7billion set aside for the payments of the SRD grant.
Surely that whole amount won’t be used for the payments,
there may be a chance that there will be a remainder of that money being left aside.
What will happen to that amount? Who will benefit from it?.
What if instead of returning it back they increase the child grant increasing it to R500 in hand.
If the government and SASSA cannot afford the Increase, there should be an alternative way.
South Africa has never failed in getting funding from other countries.
This should be the most viable option for the government,
because if they are able to get funding they would be able to increase the grant and make it Permanent.
Job opportunities are scarce, and we have a lot of Unemployed people.
This leads to overpopulation and crime, if our country could work hand in hand we would be able to beat such challenges.
However with everyone being in doubt there is a high change that we can make it through,
COSATU and other parties have tried their best to work their way around this.
And now the most probable thing to do is left in the hands of the president and the SASSA agency.
This increase is needed and begged for around the entire country, people are pleading.
